Personal: Velez was born in Flint, Michigan. . . She played three years of varsity volleyball at Imlay City during which she was selected for the 1st team All-BWAC and 1st Team All-Region. . . She also played two years of varsity basketball and was selected for the 1st Team All-BWAC. . . Velez also was selected for the 2nd Team All-Conference team for her performance on the Mott Community College women’s volleyball team.
