Men's Track Roars Back To Place Second At SWAC Outdoor Championships

RESULTS

NEW ORLEANS – Prairie View A&M saved its best for last as the men's track team placed second overall behind a solid Sunday at the 2012 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in New Orleans' Tad Gormley Stadium.

William Donelson closed out his solid career by winning the 110 and 400-meter hurdles.  Donelson won the 110 with a run of 52.6 and the 400 in a time of 14.2.  Robert Williams ran his lowest times of the 2012 campaign with marks of 10.6 in the 100 and 21.3 in the 200.

The Panthers won the 4x100-meter relay in a season-best time of 40.43 and closed out the meet with a third-place run of 3:10.71.

In the field, the Panthers had a solid day led by Preston Woodard winning the triple jump with ease.  Woodard jumped 51-8 on his first jump, 49-4 feet on the second (which was the second-best jump of the event) before shutting it down from that point en route to his second straight SWAC Outdoor Title.  Devion Harris and Pierre Shepherd finished 2-3 in the high jump with jumps of 6-9 and 6-7, respectively.  James Bickham earned a second-place medal in the pole vault after throwing 11-3.

The Panthers now turn their attention to the national stage as several athletes will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas beginning on May 24.  The list of eligible participants for the event will be announced next week.
