PRELIMINARY ROUND TRACK INFORMATION
SCHEDULE
Three members of the Prairie View A&M men's track team will participate at the 2012 NCAA Division I Track and Field West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas on next week. Robert Williams will compete in the 200, William Donelson in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles and Preston Woodard in the triple jump.
Woodard is the highest ranking Prairie View A&M track student-athlete entering the preliminary round as his jump of 16.13 meters ranks fourth in the West. The Sweeny, Texas native hit his qualifying mark the opening weekend of outdoor season at the TSU Relays on March 18. Woodard, who participated in the regionals last year as a freshman, is also looking to become the first PV men's track student-athlete to qualify for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor meets in the same year in over two decades.
Donelson is the lone Panther competing in dual events at the preliminary round. The senior from Dallas earned spots in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdle events as he ran a career-best 14.01 in the 110 at the North Texas Classic in April and another career-best time of 51.39 in the 400 hurdles at the Rice Twilight also in April. Donelson enters the round with a ton of regional experience as this marks his third consecutive year as a participant in the preliminary round.
Williams saved his best for last with a personal-best time of 21.3 at the 2012 SWAC Outdoor Championship to qualify for the preliminary round. This will also mark the Sweeney, Texas native's third straight preliminary round appearance as he participated in 2010 and 2011.
The festivities begin on Thursday, May 24 with the first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles set to begin at 4:30 p.m. The triple jump kicks off on Friday, May 25 at 6 p.m. while the 200-meter dash and 110-hurdles also starts at 5 p.m. on Friday.
